LR Troubles You? Stop Trying to “Master” It.

Logical Reasoning troubles most CAT aspirants.
And honestly, I understand why.
LR can be incredibly frustrating because you can spend 20 minutes on a set, feel like you are getting somewhere, and then suddenly realize that one tiny observation was all you were missing.
You start questioning yourself.
“Am I just bad at LR?”
“Why can everyone else see the logic?”
“Should I leave LR and focus on something else?”
No.
On a serious note, if LR is troubling you, don't try to magically become good at it by solving 10 sets every day.
Start with just 1 LR set a day.
And solve that one set like a detective.
Your 1-set-a-day rule
Pick one good LR set.
And give it your full attention.
Even if it takes you an hour.
Don't keep looking at the clock.
Don't immediately jump to the solution.
Don't tell yourself:
“I'm wasting an hour on one set.”
You're not.
You're training something much more important:
Your ability to persist when the logic isn't obvious.
That's the actual mind muscle you need for LR.
The first few times, you may stare at a set for 45 minutes and still feel completely lost.
That's okay.
Keep digging.
Try a different arrangement.
Look for relationships.
Make cases.
Use the information given.
Question your assumptions.
Treat the set like a detective case.
Your job isn't necessarily to solve it quickly.
Your job is to keep trying to find a way in.
And then... take a break.
If you've genuinely exhausted yourself, leave it.
Go listen to music.
Eat something.
Sleep.
Do something completely unrelated.
And come back to the same set later.
Try again with a fresh mind.
You'll be surprised how often something that looked impossible an hour ago suddenly starts making sense.
That's also part of developing your LR ability.
Don't immediately look at the entire solution
This is extremely important.
If you're stuck, don't open the solution and read everything from beginning to end.
Take a hint.
Just enough to get you moving.
Then close the solution.
Come back to the set.
Try again.
Get through the calculations yourself.
Get through the options yourself.
Make the final deductions yourself.
Because if you simply read someone else's solution, your brain says:
“Yeah, that makes sense.”
But that's not the same as being able to discover the logic yourself.
You want your brain to experience:
“I was stuck → I got a small hint → I figured out the rest.”
That is where confidence comes from.
And that's how you develop the killer mindset required for LR.
Now here's the part most people skip
Suppose you solved 5–6 difficult sets during the week.
Don't just forget about them.
At the end of the week, take those same 5–6 sets and solve them again.
All in one sitting.
Now see what happens.
If you're able to solve them much more comfortably, you've started internalising the logic.
Even if you still need to revisit the solution for one or two sets, that's completely fine.
The objective isn't:
“I must remember every solution.”
The objective is:
“I understand how to approach this kind of problem now.”
That's a massive difference.
LR is supposed to be difficult
And I want you to remember this.
You can never completely “master” LR.
Trust me.
I've spent 8 years doing this, and I still get stuck on LR sets sometimes.
That's normal.
The person who eventually gets good at LR isn't the person who never gets stuck.
It's the person who doesn't panic when they get stuck.
They keep looking.
They keep trying.
They experiment.
They come back.
They learn.
And eventually, they start seeing things that they couldn't see earlier.
That's the game.
Your self-talk matters
When you sit down with a difficult LR set, don't start with:
“I suck at LR.”
“LR is my weakest section.”
“I'll never be able to solve this.”
Tell yourself:
“I can do this.”
“I will persist.”
“I don't need to see the logic immediately.”
“I just need to keep looking.”
“I will outperform 90% of the people who give up when it gets uncomfortable.”
And then...
Get to work.
One set a day.
Detective mode.
Persist.
Review.
Repeat.
5–6 sets every week.
Then solve them again.
That's it.
LR is tough for everyone.
You don't need to become a genius at it.
You just need to become the person who stays with the problem longer than everyone else.
