Can CAT be aced in 4 months? Yes—but only if you spend these 4 months doing the right things consistently.
CAT is not an exam where studying for 10 hours one day and then taking three days off works. Four months is enough to build a very strong score if you focus on concepts, practice, and mock analysis.
First, remember you're preparing for 3 seperate exams and you need to just nail one and sail through other two in top 10% performers to open gates of most of the IIMs and top colleges.
Here is the daily action plan for next 4 months.
August & September (learning phase)
1. VARC – Read one RC every day
Reading Comprehension contributes nearly 70% of the VARC section.
Every day:
Solve one RC passage.
Spend time understanding why each option is right or wrong.
Focus on the author's perspective instead of just finding the correct answer.
Improving your reading and interpretation matters much more than simply increasing the number of passages you solve.
2. DILR – Solve one set every day
Give yourself one full hour for a single LR or DI set daily. Don't worry if you can't solve it initially.
The learning happens when you:
Try your best first.
Study the solution carefully.
Understand the logic behind every step.
At the end of each week, revisit the 5–6 sets you've already solved without looking at the solutions. even if you look and in middle of it find a direction, come back to question and get to final steps yourself. You'll be surprised how much your pattern recognition improves.
3. Quant – Build topic by topic
Around 60–70% of CAT Quant comes from Arithmetic and Algebra, with the remaining questions from Geometry, Number System and Modern Maths.
My suggestion:
Focus on Arithmetic & Algebra first—they make up nearly 70% of CAT Quant.
Pick one topic every day and Watch a basic concept video and solve 5–10 questions.
I use this 3 star method with my batch of aspirants. you got to rate yourself:
⭐ 1 Star: Don't understand the topic yet. ⭐⭐ 2 Star: Can solve some questions but not consistently. ⭐⭐⭐ 3 Star: Confident enough to solve CAT-level questions.
Spend most of your time converting ⭐⭐ topics into ⭐⭐⭐ topics.
Revisit ⭐ topics only when you have time, starting again with concepts. If you are still struggling with concepts, leave the topic and move on. You dont have to attempt all questions. No one can! Pick low hanging fruits and aim for 15–16 manageable questions in first half hour then use last 10 minutes for whatever you can scrape.
Once mocks begin, keep updating your ratings based on your actual performance.
Remember: CAT isn't about mastering every topic. It's about having enough ⭐⭐⭐ topics to maximize your score in 40 minutes.
By the end of September, you'll likely discover that there are many topics you're already comfortable with. Build confidence there first before spending excessive time on weaker areas.
October & November = Mock Season
This is where many students make the biggest mistake. They keep learning new concepts instead of learning from mocks.
Attempt 2–3 full-length mocks every week.
More importantly, spend several hours analysing each mock:
Where did you make silly mistakes?
Which questions should you have attempted?
Which questions should you have skipped?
Where did you waste time?
Which topics need revision?
The analysis is more valuable than the mock itself.
Every mock should make you slightly better than the previous one.
Final Thoughts
Your goal over the next four months isn't to become perfect.
Your goal is to improve your percentile a little every week.
Stay consistent. Review your mistakes. Trust the process.
That's how most serious CAT aspirants improve.
Hope this helps. 😊
